Brunello 2018

Brunello di Montalcino is one of my favorite region in Italy… It was very interesting to check how the 10-20 years old Brunello are evolving, and also evaluate the potential of their younger sibblings 🙂

2015 Pertimali Maremma Toscana Istriciaia
Huge nose of cold ripe black fruit, cedar wood, hint of licorice… hint of harsh tannin, cold black fruit (89 points)

2012 Pertimali Maremma Toscana Istriciaia
Very nice nose of ripe strawberries, cedar wood… Taste of super delicious ripe strawberries, sappy tannin, great acidity that matches well with food! (90 points)

2015 Livio Sassetti Rosso di Montalcino
Nice nose of red fruit, cedar wood, forest floor… Nice taste of black cherries, super silky tannin, very refined and feminine, a mini Brunello! (91 points)

2009 Il Poggione (Proprietá Franceschi) Brunello di Montalcino
Superb nose of BBQ, bacon fat, roasted cherries, red cranberries… Loads of sappy tannin, red berries, hint of drying tannin, quite evolved and mature Brunello! (93 points)

2010 Il Poggione (Proprietá Franceschi) Brunello di Montalcino
Huge nose of ripe strawberries, iodine, loads of cedar wood, cèpes de Bordeaux… Loads of cold tannins, red berries, lenght of 30 seconds… Wait 5 years before opening a next bottle! (92 points)

2004 Agostina Pieri Brunello di Montalcino
It’s amazing how this wine has improved after 14 years… Very ripe nose of black cherries, bacon… Loads of very ripe tannins, ripe red cherries, lacking a bit of acidity at opening, but has improved dramatically with 3 hours of bottle opening!! (96 points)

2001 Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona Brunello di Montalcino Vigna di Pianrosso
Loads of methol, eucalyptus, hint of nail paint at opening dissapeared after 3 hours aeration… Ripe tannins, red cherries, showing hint of alcohol at opening but is the wine that improved the most after 3 hours opening!! (92 points)

2013 Livio Sassetti Brunello di Montalcino
Nice nose of herbes de Provence, red cherries, bacon, cèpes de Bordeaux… Super delicate and refined tannin, red ripe berries, super sappy tannin, very sexy, feminine and refreshing wine, lenght of 30 sec! (95 points)

2012 Pertimali (Livio Sassetti) Brunello di Montalcino Riserva
Huge and delicious nose of cedar wood, herbes de Provence, hint of bacon, cèpes de Bordeaux… Loads of sappy tannin, superb balance, ripe red berries, super silky tannins, lenght of 30 sec!! (96 points)

1997 Pertimali (Livio Sassetti) Brunello di Montalcino
Very dark colour and seems still pretty young for it’s age!! Huge nose of cèpes de Bordeaux, leather, Havana cigar, BBQ sauce, roasted meat, great great nose… Super concentrated, but sappy tannin, loads of ripe and cold black cherries, good acidity, lenght of 60 sec, fantastic Brunello (98 points)
