Priorat visit: Clos Erasmus & Nit de Nin

February 9, 2017

To me the Clos Ersamus 2013 is simply the best wine of Spain in the magic 2013 vintage, tasted 2 times and rated 99/100 and 100/100… also we tasted the 2014 and barrel samples of 2015 and 2016… that leaves you speechless!!

We also had the pleasure to visit Carles and Ester, who are experimenting with Amphoras for part of the wine that seems very interesting, planting new cepages like Carignan blanc with is not officially authorized yet, but seems very promising… and their Nit de Nin just gets better and better every year in this incredible terroir of Mas Del Encarcador which is probably in the top 3 best terroirs of Priorat!!

2014 Clos Erasmus Priorat Laurel
Huge nose of mineral, salty licorice, cold black cherries, loads of iodine, very expressive for such a young Laurel!! Very fresh taste, cold red cherries, lot of salt, amazing freshness!! (95 points)

2014 Clos Erasmus Priorat
Very cold, incense, black characoal, salty, red berries, cedar wood… Mineral, cold, chalky, high acidity, red berries, very fresh and feminine 95/100 today as the wine was very closed, but potentially (97-98/100)

2016 Clos Erasmus Priorat
Very early grenache barrel sample, difficult to judge the nose at this stage… seems very promising, with probably a bit more concentration than 2015 and even more minerality & freshness… Looking forward to retaste this in a few years!! (96-98/100)
